All the winners of the Detektor International Award

The jury of the globally distributed security technology publication, Detektor International, has announced
the 3:rd Detektor International Award-winners. The ceremony was held in the Danish capital Copenhagen, at SAS Radisson Scandinavia on 22nd of October.

The Detektor International
Award
intends to reward and encourrage research and development within the security technology field.
   - This prize is a confirmation and a recognition of products that stand up to the criteria of outstanding innovations and contributions to the advancement of the security industry, says Lennart Alexandrie, the editor and publisher of Detektor International.
In September. on the security exhibition Skydd 2002 in Stockholm, the publisher of Detektor International (Ar Media International), announced the nominated products.
Independently selected among approximately 600 novelties, 12 products were nominated in total three categories; Intruder Alarms, Access control and CCTV.
After the nomination ceremony, the jury, which contains of eight members of the editorial board of Detektor, gave their votes. This resulted in six finalists.
All the six finalists was rewarded during the prize ceremony at the Security Industry Dinner, which was held in connection with the Sectech Expo and Conference in Copenhagen. The all over winner in their respective  category got the "Best Product Award" which is a glass sculpture, special designed for the Detektor International Award by the world famous glass designer Bertil Vallien. The runner up received the "Highly Commended" diploma, for their innovative product.
The winners and runner ups 2002 are originated from three continents, securing the knowledge that this is certainly an International Awards Arena.

The “Best Intruder Alarm products”
The prize ceremony for the Detektor International Awards at SAS Radisson Scandinavia started with announcing that  GE Interlogix (USA) was the overall winner in the Intruder Alarm Category for the seismic detector VV 700. The runner up in the same category was Optex (JAPAN) for its PIR detector with double IR-sensors VX402Rec.

The runner up
• The VX-4O2Rec from Optex (Japan) became this year´s runner up in the intruder alarm category. This detector is suitable for almost every outdoor application because it combines two PIRs, creating extra high immunity against false alarms caused by small animals, cars, and other outdoor disturbances.
The VX-4O2Rec is equipped with a record/play function, which enables the user to record two different 8-second messages and playback from its built in speaker, whenever the device is triggered. The detector can function as a voice deterrent for
unwanted approaching intruders or as a friendly greeting for guests as they enter/exit a facility.

The international jury of the Detektor International Award motivated the recognition of the Optex detector with the following words: "Through the VX-402Rec, Optex has once again come
up with an ingenious yet simple product.”

The winner
• The seismic detector VV 700 from GE Interlogix (USA) protects any solid structure like safes, vaults, vault doors, ATM's and night safe deposit boxes. Each programme is tailored to a specific application.
With a configuration cable it is possible to communicate with the VV700 detector directly from a laptop. As the detector is programmed on site, it can be adapted to the environment and the application. With this new technology the detector allows for several different signal analysis programmes in the same hardware. This makes the VV700 a fully universal detector
suitable for all known applications.
The international jury motivated the winning concept with the following words: ”The VV700 from GE Interlogix, is a universal seismic detector, suitable for all applications.”

The “Best Access Control Product”
It was no surprise when the publisher of Detektor International announced the two finalists in the category of Access Control at the prize ceremony for the Detektor Internatiatinal Award in Copenhagen.
HID Corp (USA) was the overall winner and received the beautiful glass sculpture, special designed bt Bertil Vallien, for “Best Access Control Product”. The iClass concept is a truly milestone.
The runner up in the same category was Omron for its biometric Face Key solution.

The runner up
The Face ID Access Control System Face Key, from Omron (Japan), is a product which employs face recognition technology. The system is composed of an access unit, control unit, and data management terminal. A built-in CCD camera takes a picture of anyone attempting to en-ter, then compares the picture with
face image data of authorised personnel before unlocking the door if the picture and recorded image match.
The international jury motivated the "Highly Commended" diploma to Omron with the following motivation: "”Face Key is really an answer to the increasing demand of biometric solutions for secure access control"

The winner
iCLASS, from HID (USA), the new 13.56 MHz, read/write, contact-less smart card technology got the finest Detektor International Award for "Best Access Control Product".
iClass is optimised for multiple applications including physical access control, IT secure authentication and many more.
Several unique features put iCLASS cards and readers a step ahead of traditional radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, including:

• Encrypted data storage
• Mutual authentication
• Secure reading and writing of data
• User definable access keys

The line of iCLASS contactless smart card readers will include read only, read/write (with optional keypad or LCD terminal), and a biometric terminal option. The readers’ Wiegand output easily interfaces with most existing Wiegand protocol access control panels.
The iCLASS product family was designed to provide a truly multi-application solution, including:

• Access control
• Time and attendance
• Authorized access to office equipment
• Digital cash
• IT secure authentication
• Lighting and HVAC control and billing
• Transit passes
• Guard tour patrol
• Equipment and material check-out
• Loyalty and membership programs.

It was certainly easy to motivate the winner status for the international jury of the Detektor International Award. These are the words: ”The unique features of these cards and readers shows that iClass is a step ahead of traditional radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.”

The “Best CCTV Products”
Bosch was a truly winner in this year´s edition of the CCTV-category of the  Detektor International Awards. Philips CSI (Netherlands) received the beautiful glass artwork, special designed by the world´s most respected glass designer Bertil Vallien. The  H-Q DVR  was the overall winner .
The runner up in the same category was Bosch Security Systems (Netherlands)  for its video motion detector concept SAVE.SENS, and the new V8101P video motion detector.
Bosch recently purchased the Philips CSI divison from Philips.

The runner up
Bosch Security Systems (Germany) were rewarded as this year´s runner up for their new Video motion detection sensor concept called SAVE.SENS, and the new V8101P video motion detector.
The Save.Sens concept and the onechannel video motion detector V8101P  is intended for both indoor and outdoor use.
It works with digital, self-adapting motion detection algorithms that automatically compensate for changing environmental conditions, thus minimising false alarms.
For this video motion detector, Bosch Security Systems received the "Highly Commeded Product" diploma during the Detektor International Award ceremony, with the following motivation from the jury: ”Through the introduction of Save.Sens V8101P,
Bosch Security Systems has proven that a very advanced self-adapting high-quality video motion detector can update a present analogue camera surveillance system without being outrageously expensive.”

The winner
Philips CSI (Netherlands), recently purchased by Bosch, had the honour to receive the Detektor International Award for "Best CCTV Product" of the year. The awarded H-Q DVR, uses MPEG-2 compression technology and offers both high image quality and fast transmission rates.
