Solicard ARX – Solid AB (Sweden)
Solicard ARX is a professional and proven core system, with simplified installation through use of an existing office network, yet still maintaining a high level of communication security through PKI certificate technology.
One of the most significant developments for this new product is that the communication between door controllers and server, which traditionally has been via dedicated wires, is now accomplished via a normal TCP/IP network.  Communication is carried out via normal industry standards, which in the case of  Solicard includes SSL. Data transfer security is in line with the techniques used by the high street banks when protecting their internet customers. In order to prevent unauthorised access to the access control functions, verification is checked by a PKI certificate. This means that a server or a door controller will not communicate unless there is a match. Connecting this solution to an existing network means reduced installation costs greater flexibility and a high level of security.
All door controllers in a system are controlled by a server storing the information in an SQL database. The server can also be updated from other data bases. For example information may be collected from the company's archive directories.
In order to configure the server nothing but a web reader with Java support is required.
Also in this case SSL comunication is used, which means maintained security from door controller to the client server. The TCP/IP protocol means that authorised administrators can access the system remotely from anywhere in the world.
By integrating the access control system to the normal network enviroment maintenance becomes easier and more cost effective. This applies to the initial investment as well as to costs for upgrades.

The motivation for nominating Solicard ARX:
"Solid AB has in the case of  Solicard ARX combined the best of two worlds with a proven and well working core of a traditional access control system with the flexibility of a common standard network."

The nomination of “Best alarm products”
It is not surprising that all four manufacturers nominated for this years “Best Alarm Product” are already well known worldwide players in their respective areas of expertise.  Here are the nominated products.

Flexiguard CLS  - Advanced Perimeter Systems (UK)
Advanced Perimeter Systems has released an innovative new perimeter intrusion detection system. The Flexiguard Closed Loop System (CLS) provides a means of monitoring a protected fence even after a sensor cable has been cut - a feature that has not been available on the market before now.
Consisting of a monitored sensor cable, which is installed at a low level and a high level on the fence to form a loop, CLS differs from similar existing systems by allowing end users to maintain detection capabilities even if the cable is cut by an intruder. Until now, a sensor cable cut would provide a tamper alarm, but all detection capabilities would then be lost, making that zone unusable until the cable was repaired. Bi-directional signal processing - which is at the heart of CLS - means that if the sensor cable is cut on this system the analyser tamper detection circuit generates an alarm but the detection capabilities of the system are not lost.
Flexiguard CLS can be fitted to an existing fence, following the contours of the perimeter so there is no loss of site usage. It monitors levels of activity occurring along the length of the fence, such as vibrations caused by an intruder cutting or climbing it, giving an alarm receiving centre (ARC) early warning of an attack. The system's analyser has an audio output facility, allowing an ARC operator or a guard on site to listen in to the interference on the fence created by an attack. This remote verification can be through real-time audio or a recording. The system can also work in conjunction with any alarm monitoring system, as well as acting as a detection device to interface with CCTV, access control and building management systems. For example, cutting the sensor cable could trigger CCTV cameras for monitoring and recording of the affected scene. Flexiguard CLS uses an automatic environmental control feature as part of its signal processing techniques to distinguish between weather "noise" (e.g. generated by wind) and genuine cut and climb intrusion attempts. This addresses the potential for false alarms. The system has been developed for protection of installations in the nuclear industry, facilities operated by the utilities, prisons, military sites, power stations, government buildings, airport perimeters, petro-chemical plants and other similar sites.

The motivation for nominating the Flexiguard CLS:
” An interesting enhancement of perimeter intrusion detection capable of identifying non-malicious environmental damage to the fence, equally as well as reacting appropriately to intentional forced entry attempts.”

Bosch F220-PTHC detector (Germany)
The F220 Series from Bosch Security features the F220-PTHC, a photoelectric/carbon monoxide/heat detector. The sensitivity of this detector increases as it senses smoke, carbon monoxide and heat, all active components of a fire. The more components of a fire that are present, the quicker the detector sends an alarm while dramatically reducing false alarms by automatically adjusting sensitivity levels.
Other detectors available in this series include photoelectric only, photoelectric with heat detection, photoelectric with carbon monoxide detection and a heat only version. All the detectors in the F220 Series feature an easy to clean chamber that does not require the units to be disassembled, a valuable time saver.
These detectors also automatically compensate sensitivity to contamination in the chamber extending the time between cleanings and reducing false alarms. A dual colour LED indicates whether the detector is operating normally (green) or is in alarm mode (red). A complete line of 2- and 4-wire bases, including a separately powered sounder version, is available.
This line of detectors has the CleanMe sensitivity feature. This feature allows a control panel that has the CleanMe feature enabled to receive a signal from the detector letting it know the detector needs cleaning. The detector’s CleanMe feature is easily activated with a magnet.

The motivation for nominating Bosch F220-PTHC:
”An impressive triple sensing detector from Bosch with automatic sensitivity adjustment reacting to changing environments to prevent false activations, and a practical time saving easy clean feature”.

It will also operate with any brand of radio transmitters. The VX-402R passive IR detector is a multi-stabilised, outdoor detector with the same high performance against false alarms as the VX-402 standard version. The current draw is very low and the battery is housed inside the mounting bracket of the detector.
A wireless detector is easy to install and saves expensive installation time, especially when installing outdoors.
The detector is equipped with a battery saving circuit. After the first detection the detector goes into a passive mode and no other detections can be made before this passive period has expired. The passive period can be set to 5 or 120 seconds so that it’s flexibly able to be set for each application.  This feature extends battery life, especially if it’s installed in high traffic areas.
The temperature compensation will increase detection capability under high temperature conditions where the background temperature is similar to that of the human body.  It maintains a high level of false alarm protection while providing accurate detection by automatically adjusting its sensitivity according to the environmental temperature.
The alarm output and the tamper output are both changeover contacts, which allow the unit to be used with any transmitter.

The motivation for nominating Optex VX-402R:
” The VX-402R, a versatile battery operated, multi-stabilised, outdoor detector for wireless installation with high performance against false alarms, is certain to save be acknowledged as a time a and money saving device, whilst providing a technically efficient solution”.
